What for many travellers and residents of Mallorca was a source of annoyance in autumn 2008, is a blessing for the island in the new year. Due to the frequent downpours, the water supply of the Balearic Islands is assured for 2009. Both the reservoirs in the Tramuntana mountain range, Cúber and Gorg Blau, are full to the brim and the sluices have even had to be opened to cope with the amounts. Mallorca's wells are likewise showing record levels.

Even the sea water desalination plants, which produce about 40,000 cubic metres of fresh water daily, are currently standing idle. This means that there is nothing standing in the way of a successful summer season in 2009.
