Despite the current turbulence on the financial and real estate markets, in the El Toro district of Calvia (belonging to Port Andratx) in the south-west of Majorca, an extension to the harbour facilities at Port Adriano is continuing as planned.  The initial foundations for the new classy harbour have already been laid.

The project was started about one year ago and, according to the harbour operating company, 30% has already been completed. Upon completion of the project, 82 new berths will be available for super yachts of between 25 and 60 metres in length. Work on the new berths is expected to commence in spring and will be completed by mid-2009 at the latest. Afterwards, it is planned to build an approximately 4,500 square metre large shopping, leisure and management area. The well-known French architect, Philippe Starck, has drawn up the designs for the area. The entire harbour complex is due to be completed in May 2010.

When the extension work at Port Adriano has been completed, as well as the existing 404 berths for smaller yachts, it will now be possible for larger yachts to call at the south-western part of Majorca. Port Andratx will also probably become very attractive as the home base or holiday harbour for owners of mega yachts.

According to the operating company, the new harbour area will provide harbour facilities that can be used by all the island’s inhabitants and guests. A ramp will be built for boats that can be transported by trailer and will be available for use free of charge by anyone wanting to take boats in or out of the water. Children will have an opportunity to take part in free courses organised by the harbour sailing school, so that they can be introduced to the sport in a simple way.
