Under the direction of the Dutch landscape architect, Adriaan Geuze, the 15 square kilometre beach in Palma is to be re-designed to set it apart from the El Arenal “Riotous Mile“.

With the master plan to be presented by the end of the year, Geuze’s architectural office “West 8” envisions the creation of a reduced-traffic area surrounded by landscaped green areas and sports facilities, which will give the area a new image with palm-lined avenues and promenades.

In planning this billion euro project, a high value has also been placed on protecting the three nature reserves, which up to now have been rather neglected, and the old fishing village of Can Pastilla. It is still not clear just how much will have to be invested to give Palma’s beach a facelift.
